Welcome, Travelers!
The Unified Sapien Quadrant has a plethora of both long and short-term accommodations to fit nearly all your needs! Let's explore just some of your options! But first, we're sure you have a few questions... and we are here to help.
What are the differences between Stations, Colony Outposts, and Data Outposts?
That's a great question!
Stations are those large and sophisticated orbital structures located above planets that fall within the jurisdiction of Unified Command, our brave and fearless military government, which has kept us safe since before The Barrier. You can find all manner of legal goods and services within the many commerce rings, hubs, and sections provided within each station! Stations are also perfect for the Traveler on the go, with staterooms for rent for as little as a day, or as long as twenty years, with the option to renew. For families, Stations make good practical sense because all your needs are met - from food, to shelter, to education, to occupation, and beyond!
Colony Outposts typically orbit plants that fall outside of Unified Command's jurisdiction, due to having opted out of their rule and protection. Each one is independently owned and operated, though it maintains membership within a loose association of other Colony Outposts. Often, each one develops and trains its own defense force, handles disputes by committee, tribunal, or other means, and the planet the outpost orbits offers additional sources of labor and revenue in ways that help offset the operational costs. Unfortunately, these locations are often prime targets for pirates and other nefarious individuals, and not all goods and services one can obtain at a Colony Outpost are fully legal, ethical, or moral. Still, for Travelers looking for a more adventurous and uncertain life, a Colony Outpost may be an available option.
Data Outposts, on the other hand, are outside of both Unified Command and Colony jurisdiction, meaning they operate wholly in and of themselves, with no protection or regulation. These structures orbit no planets themselves and existed before the expanse in ways we are still discovering; however, it is widely theorized that these facilities were used as backup servers for interstellar record-keeping, information relays, and as archaic digital libraries. During the Great Transition, these locations were largely ignored until a collective of independent journalists developed the idea to utilize them for the transmission of a free press. Now, Data Outposts house a rotating team of volunteer reporters, covering everything from local politics to fashion and entertainment, technology and finance, and more! Data Outposts, or more colloquially News Relays, bounce each other's signals across the Quadrant, ensuring even the most remote Traveler still remains informed and up to date with current events.
Wait, isn't The Barrier BAD?
Absolutely not! And it's considered treason to suggest otherwise!
Long ago, the Greater Galactic Council gifted us with The Quadrant, so that we could all have the freedom to travel our own space, and The Barrier, to protect both sides from wiping each other out. And what benevolence we received, we are eternally grateful for. We have everything we need right here, within this Quadrant, and it's not without visitors! We see guests arrive "from out of town," as we say now, because the Greater Galactic Council wants those with enough tenacity and sense of adventure to come experience the Sapien way of life! Xilians, Solarians, Lerastians, and more frequently choose to not only visit, but make their homes here. There is no bad blood between Sapiens and the Greater Galactic Council, and we welcome the opportunity to one day mend our distant relations. Remember, it's a crime to be unkind!
